Once you have downloaded and installed the Smart-ID application, you need to register an account. Smart-ID works across multiple devices and you can install the app on as many smart devices as you want – just remember that you’ll need to register a new account for each device.
Choose your registration method based on the type of account you want to open:
Smart-ID account will give you full access to all Smart-ID benefits: you can use it to log in to all of your bank accounts, access all other e-services and to give digital signatures. This is the recommended account type for all users including minors.
Smart-ID Basic accounts are limited to online banking only: you won’t be able to log in to other e-services or sign documents. Choose Smart-ID Basic account type only if you’re unable to register a full access Smart-ID, i.e. the only registration method you can use is bank link authentication; you are non-resident/foreigner without a Latvian or Lithuanian national ID number or you want to register an account for a minor just to give them access to a bank account. Read about Smart-ID Basic for corporate clients and if you already have a Basic account, how to upgrade your Smart-ID Basic to full-access Smart-ID.
In order to register your full access Smart-ID account, you:
- must have an Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian national ID-number
(read more about Smart-ID for new generation Latvian ID number.) - will need to comply with Smart-ID age restrictions
Worth noting: Swedbank registers Smart-ID accounts for non-customers, too. Other banks only provide the service for their customer base.
