You can choose whether you want the Smart-ID app on your Android phone to bypass your screen lock or not. All options are considered to be safe – so it is completely up to you how you want to use it. Note that push notifications for older Android versions and new Android 10 behave a bit differently!
NB! There are no screen lock bypass options available for iOS smart devices.
Android push notifications:
First, launch the Smart-ID app. Then open the menu in the top left corner, find “Application info” and then locate “Incoming transactions open app” selection. Different Androids have different navigation paths: read more how to navigate to Android sound alert settings on your phone’s menu.
- “Show notifications” means you will see Smart-ID PIN requests but will need to unlock your phone screen to enter the requested PIN-numbers. This is the most common setting to choose.
- “Off” means you will need to launch Smart-ID app manually in order to enter the requested PIN-numbers
- “Always on” means that Smart-ID will override your active screen lock and you can type your PIN-number in without having to unlock your phone first.
Android Q / Android 10 push notifications:
The default settings of Android Q (10) no longer allow background apps to launch activities: you now need to initiate the interaction yourself, for example by tapping on the push notification. It also changes the way push notifications behave on new Androids:
- Screen lock is on and device screen is turned off:
You need to press the power button to make transaction activity visible on top of the locked screen. - Screen lock is on and the device screen is turned on:
Transaction activity is displayed on top of the locked screen - Device is in active use (screen is not locked and is on):
System notification is displayed on your screen, you need to click it to open transaction.
